weekend

This weekend was a blend of overdue domesticity (after being on vacation for two weekends in a row) and San Diego outings. Friday was a day of harvest. After picking up some fresh produce from the farmers market, we dug for potatoes. We found a whopping 13; it was like an easter egg hunt. We roasted them with some of our carrots and beets, served over rice with avocado. AMAZING.

Saturday morning was spent 'gingerly' cleaning house before heading out to Oktoberfest in La Mesa. We hopped on the trolley with the rest of San Diego to spare ourselves parking/traffic tantrums (highly recommended if you're a loose cannon in traffic situations like some). We braved the 90 degree temperatures of La Mesa and walked the length of the street fair before settling in the shade with beers (me) and sauerkraut (Francis). I've never been to the real Oktoberfest, but I'm thinking it has more than slightly bad 'German' music and the occasional beer maiden to earn the name. No matter; we had fun.*

Sunday's cloudy weather made me relax/read with hot coffee and a blanket for the better half of the morning. That afternoon we packed some decadent sandwiches and rode bikes to Balboa Park for a picnic. We love San Diego.

*Though note to self: do not agree to help F shoe shop after Oktoberfest as a beer-infused daze makes you almost buy a completely impractical/scandalous pair of thigh high boots. Absolutely not.
