summer soltice and weekend adventures

In a burst generosity I've combined last weekend's photos with some from last Monday's summer soltice.

Monday:

In our own little celebration of summer solstice, F and I made a homemade summer pizza with pesto, spinach, garlic, onions, and squash (from his mom's garden - best squash ever). Pizza was followed by an evening walk through Little Italy to Yogurtland, aka yogurt Mecca.

Weekend:

F and I were exhausted Friday evening after two long days of physical labor, but seeing as he was leaving for a 7-day trip to Big Bear early Saturday morning, we decided we had to do something. So we drove (too exhausted to walk) to Burger Lounge to split a veggie burger, fries, and onion rings. And a root beer.

F left early Saturday as did I, homeward bound. At home I swam, lounged in the sun, rode bikes, played ping pong, did some successful thrift store shopping (all with the company of my wonderful younger sisters), presumably got my second concussion of the year, and liquored up my parents.

Sunday I got a skimboarding lesson from my friend, Samantha. Sorry guys, no pictures this time of me eating it on the skimboard...all in due time. Samantha tore it up on her her board, so much in fact that in a freak accident she was hit in the head by her board. She sliced her head-up pretty good and after some help from lifeguards, a reluctant confession of the injury to her parents, a trip to the ER, and 3 stitches - she's going to be okay. Skimboarding adventure! Amidst all the excitement (and blood) of the injury I neglected to take a picture of Samantha's cut head with her brains spilling out (slight dramatization). We both agreed that the silver lining of the ordeal was that the injury resulted from something cool like skimboarding...rather than just falling off a curb of something lame like that. Battle wound!

productive (warning: expletives appear in this post)

Today is an amazing day: I get to leave work early. Momentous! I plan to have a simultaneously relaxing and productive afternoon. My hopeful productivity is shown below through Hyperbole and Half visual aids.

Weekend post up tomorrow. Sheesh, give me a break, it's been a busy-busy week.

dress

Can I get married in something fabulous like this?

Or perhaps Valentino will loan me this dress for a few hours.

weekend

Friday evening I surprised Francis with homemade onion rings and surprised myself when they turned out perfectly delicious. I think he fell in love with me all over again when he tried them. Secret weapon?

Saturday we met up with some friends of F's from architecture school for brunch. Later I made dessert and met up with the girls for a Saturday girls' night downtown. We BBQ'd, had mojitos, ate an amazing dinner, and played a game called 'Things'. The game got a little out of control. In a good way. We also defaced a Padres bobble head doll. The early stages of defacement resembled my dad; witness the progression of the doll's torment below.

I had to taste test the dessert....four times...

Sunday we met F's friends from school again in La Jolla for some beach time. After the beach, F galloped off to Father's Day festivities while I biked down to El Camino with the girls for a late afternoon pitcher of margs.

Hello, Monday

No Monday blues for this one today. The weekend was wonderful, filled with activity, friends, and cocktails. Weekend post up tomorrow.

On another note: hello, dream attic-bedroom.

long weekend post

Friday I got off of work a bit early and met Francis for some tennis. Then we kicked off the weekend with happy hour at El Camino (quickly becoming a ritual for us). Ended the night with a backyard fire and Scrabble by light of headlamp.

Saturday while F visited friends I biked down to the Little Italy farmer's market. Among the purchases were a new bracelet and a fresh-squeezed raspberry lemonade. The trip took a dramatic turn when I had to choose between spending the rest of my dwindling cash on a very decadent-looking pastry or sunflowers; I chose the latter.

The rest of Saturday included some cleaning, reading, burritos, The Karate Kid (the original), cards, a bit more shopping, and more Scrabble.

Sunday we rode bikes to the cafe, watched some World Cup, I worked on a top secret gift for a graduate, thinned out our vegetable sprouts, and hike around Ocean Beach.
